Father Dyer Church Addition

Location: Breckenridge, CO
Project Type: Commercial Addition
Design Goals: Improved Connectivity and Mobile Accessibility

Initially built in 1880 the Father Dyer Church has been meeting the needs of residents and visitors alike in its present location since 1977. To meet the ever growing needs the ministry completed a 2,728 square foot addition to the existing historic structure, connecting a previous addition over an existing patio and handicapped ramp.

The expansion offers improved connectivity between the spaces and provides better access to the facilities for those with mobility restrictions by the installation of an ADA compliant entry and elevator.

The architecture of the addition is a scaled down massing of the historic main church with matching roof pitches, windows and siding. The building systems have also been updated with a new fire sprinkler system, mechanical ventilation, and all new plumbing and electrical fixtures.

The congregation hosts community dinners every Sunday for up to 125 people and operates a food pantry that serves hundreds of locals every month. The addition offers additional seating space for community dinners as well as an upgraded kitchen and improved food pantry space to meet the increased needs in the community.

New dedicated meeting rooms also serve wide ranging community programs such as youth programs and adult education as well as Alcohol and Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

A new garden replaces a paved driveway to highlight the historic Father Dyer Cabin which has been relocated from the parking lot. The garden also features outdoor seating and a labyrinth.

Arapahoe Architects is proud to be a part of this project serving our local community.
