This new residence along the Colorado River north of Dotsero evokes classic ranch house design while integrating modern touches to provide the best of both worlds. The rustic materials and roof forms are a call back to the agricultural tradition of the property. From the front, the house is a single-story residence and an attached garage with ADU above, echoing the scale and form of a small ranch house and barn. The back of the house opens up with large windows to expansive views of the Colorado River and a walk out lower level. Decks and patios provide ample outdoor living space. Although this location is lower elevation than many of our mountain projects, mountain design concepts are still important here with several feet of snow and long stretches of cold temperatures in winter. Many strategies for snow and ice management also apply to rain water management and even wildfire risk mitigation. So, while the aesthetic appearance may be different and more fitting for this location, the design strategies we’ve perfected in the mountains serve our clients throughout the varied landscapes of Colorado.
