The Avalanch House sits at 11,000 feet above the town of Montezuma, an old mining claim site that is prone to avalanches.
The roof is designed to act like the inverted hull of a ship and split the avalanche's impact and debris. The ridge acting as a keep and the rafters as ribs. The windows, doors, and walls face downhill, protected by the roof.
This year the timberframe shell of the detached utility building has been erected.
